Accreditation FAQs
- What is ACE?
-
ACE, The American Council on Education, is the nation's unifying voice for higher education through advocacy, research and program initiatives. The CREDIT branch of ACE offers college credit recommendations for approved college level courses taken outside of college or university degree programs.
- What is the significance of getting an ACE credit recommendation for our courses?
-
The College Credit Recommendation Service (CREDIT), offered through ACE's Center for Lifelong Learning (CLLL), helps adults obtain college credit for formal education courses taken outside college and university degree programs. Many colleges and universities nationwide and abroad use the ACE college CREDIT recommendation service for making credit award decisions. In addition, many corporations use ACE CREDIT recommendations for granting employee reimbursement of educational expenses. Based on decades of experience, CREDIT has assisted in assessing high-quality training programs that can successfully transfer to college credit. In addition, hundreds of Fortune 500 companies have relied on CREDIT recommendations to support the professional development of their employees.
- What is the difference between ACE and ICF accreditation?
-
All of CTI’s coach training programs are accredited by the ICF, the governing and accreditation body for coach training worldwide. ACE accreditation currently applies to our Leadership program only.
- How do students know if employers honor the credit recommendation?
-
Company policies vary, so students must ask their employers. It is best for participants to do this BEFORE registering for the ACE CREDIT recommendation. Many employers require that the student pass the course in order to grant reimbursement for educational expenses, so the student should get clarity ahead of time from their employer on this and any other related issues. ACE has a successful advocacy service and encourages HR departments to contact them with questions about honoring the credit recommendation. For more information on College Credit and Transcripts, please call 202-939-9434 or email credit@ace.nche.edu
- How do students know if colleges honor the credit recommendation?
-
Students must ask the college or university. The college or university determines whether they will accept the ACE credit recommendation in their education program. To support this process, ACE has a successful advocacy service that will assist students in gaining the maximum amount of college credit possible. Contact: Jo Ann Robinson, Director of ACE College Credit Recommendation Service, The Center For Adult Learning, American Council on Education, One Dupont Circle, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20036-1193, (202) 939-9431.
- How does the student know if they qualify for the ACE CREDIT recommendation?
-
For the Co-Active Leadership Program, participants must register to take the course for the ACE CREDIT recommendation, attend all four retreats, complete the homework assignments and between retreat course projects and receive a favorable evaluation from course leaders in order to receive the ACE CREDIT recommendation. The Leadership Program has been awarded a credit recommendation of 4 semester units of upper division college credit by the American Council on Education CREDIT Division.
Please note that to be eligible for a transcript from the ACE, students must pass the course.
- Does the company or the student pay CTI for the course?
-
Payment is always the student's responsibility. Reimbursement policies vary from company to company, so students should talk to their employer in advance about their company's policy on reimbursement for CTI courses.
- How do students know if they are eligible for reimbursement from their companies?
-
Students should ask their employer ahead of time about requirements for company reimbursement. Some companies require successful completion of the course, have an annual dollar limit on educational reimbursement and/or limit reimbursement eligibility to courses which are directly job related.
- How long does approval for reimbursement normally take from company HR departments?
-
Students will need to ask their employer about timing and approval policies.
- Does CTI charge extra for taking the course for the ACE credit recommendation?
-
Yes.
For the Co-Active Leadership Program, there is an additional fee of $600, payable at the time of registration, to take the course for the ACE CREDIT recommendation. The student must opt for ACE CREDIT before the beginning of the program.
- How do students register for the ACE Credit recommendation?
-
Students can register for the ACE Credit recommendation at the time of registration for the Co-Active Leadership program. An additional fee is required. Call the registrar at CTI (415) 451-6000, or complete the ACE section of the registration form. If students have not registered prior to the course beginning, they may opt to take the exam only if they complete the In Course Registration Form and pay the ACE College Credit Recommendation Registration fee.
- Does the ACE CREDIT recommendation apply to programs offered outside the United States?
-
That varies by course. The following CTI courses and locations meet the criteria for the ACE college credit recommendation:
- All Co-Active Leadership Program courses whether offered in the United States or internationally.
- Who provides transcripts to colleges or corporations for receiving credit?
-
For the benefit of our students, CTI participates in the American Council on Education's (ACE) Transcript Service. The ACE Transcript Service offers a lifelong record for students who have successfully completed our courses that have been reviewed by ACE CREDIT. This service enables adult learners to present a nationally recognized transcript to the college or university of their choice for the potential award of academic credit. For more information, visit the ACE CREDIT Transcript Service website at www.acenet.edu/transcripts/register/.
All transcripts should be obtained through ACE Transcript Service which will be the permanent record keeper of student transcripts. The student must first register with ACE at the following url to establish a transcript record: www.acenet.edu/transcripts/register/
ACE will then notify CTI that the student has registered with ACE CREDIT and we will transmit the student's records. Students will be notified by ACE when their transcript record for the course is complete.
- Does ACE have a fee for issuing transcripts?
-
Yes, the student will need to contact the ACE Transcript Service or go to the ACE website for the current fee policy.
- What is the difference between CHEA and ACE
-
CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) recognizes accrediting bodies that review and accredit higher education institutions. ACE CREDIT reviews and acknowledges formal programs outside of accredited higher education institutional settings that have been evaluated for college credit equivalencies.

The Coaches Training Institute receives college credit recommendations for training
SAN RAFAEL, C.A./EWORLDWIRE/NOV. 8, 2005 --- The Coaches Training Institute (CTI) today announced it has become the first coach training organization to receive college credit recommendations from the nationally recognized American Council on Education (ACE).
Based on a July 26, 2005 review by ACE's College Credit Recommendation Service, CTI's core Co-Active® Coaching curriculum, Certification Program and Co-Active® Leadership Program have been recommended for college credit. A team of content specialists, selected from college faculty, has reported that CTI's courses are comparable to college level courses and may be used as transfer credit at many colleges and universities nationwide.
Founded in 1992, CTI was one of the first educational institutions to develop and offer coach training and the first to be accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF). Headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, CTI is the largest in-person coach training school in the world and the only to offer both individual and team coaching courses accredited by the International Coach Federation. CTI teaches its ground-breaking Co-Active model of coaching in a highly interactive format in public courses and in organizations including IBM, Marriott, Capgemini, Herman Miller, Boeing, The Walt Disney Company, EPA, and Fairview Health Systems.
Recognized as coaching luminaries, CTI's three co-founders, Laura Whitworth and Karen and Henry Kimsey-House also co-authored the ground-breaking industry bestseller, Co-Active Coaching: New Skills for Coaching People Towards Success in Their Work and Life with Phil Sandahl.
The American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated seven programs of the CTI courses. For more information, visit ACE's website at www.acenet.edu/acecredit.
ACE's Credit recommendation puts CTI in a select group of organizations which offer ACE college credit-recommended courses. Other organizations include the American Management Association, AT&T, Dale Carnegie Training., Citigroup, Delta Air Lines, Learning Tree International, McDonalds Corporation, Union Pacific Railroad, and UAW-GM.
ACE Credit recommended courses motivate learners to begin, continue or complete a college degree program. According to a recent U.S. Department of Education Study, more than 40 percent of American adults take part in some type of adult learning activity each yearthe vast majority for work-related reasons or because they want to earn an academic credential. In addition to the potential for college credit, many employers use ACE's Credit recommendations in determining which training programs qualify for employee tuition reimbursement.
For more information on CTI courses, call CTI at 800-691-6008 or 415-451-6000, email ctiinfo@thecoaches.com, or visit our website at www.thecoaches.com.
